Map Monday: Map of the 10 Most Corrupt States
According to the Fortune Magazine, southern states lead the way in corruption. The study was done in collaboration between the University of Hong Kong and Indiana University. The statistics are based on 25,000 conviction of public officials.
Fortune reports that, “corruption on the state level is costing Americans in the 10 most corrupt states an average of $1,308 per year, or 5.2% of those states’ average expenditures per year.” Interestingly, six of the top ten most corrupt states are all “southern states.” Oregon, Washington and Minnesota were listed as the least-corrupt of the 50 states.
